There are multiple property listing websites where you can look for accommodation in London. Here are your main go-to platforms for property search:
Community groups on social media. There are a number of flat rental groups across Facebook, Telegram and other channels. The downside is, most of these groups aren’t fiercely moderated, so the majority of ads are likely scams. Most of them look too good to be true, and it’s rightly so. However, do keep an eye on flat rental ads posted on more specialised community groups (e.g. immigrants from your country or interest groups) – they have a better chance of being genuine.
Zoopla. A comprehensive property website offering a wide range of rental listings across the UK, with useful features like property value estimates and local area information.
Openrent. Directly connects landlords and tenants to make the process more straightforward and affordable. Ideal for those looking to avoid extra fees.
Nestoria. An easy-to-use search engine that aggregates property listings from various websites.
Rightmove. The UK’s largest property portal, featuring an extensive selection of rental properties. Boasts a very detailed search criteria.
PrimeLocation. Specialises in providing high-quality listings for rental properties and for sale in the UK and abroad – great for those looking for something a bit more upscale.
Spareroom. The UK’s leading flatshare website, perfect for those looking to rent a room or find housemates. Offers a range of options from single rooms to whole flats and houses. You can also create your own ad as a future tenant to get noticed by other tenants looking to buddy up, or even landlords (yes, they too can message you first if they like you!).
Adhoc Property and Dot Dot Dot Property – these websites offer a unique approach to affordable living through property guardianship. Residents temporarily live in unused buildings at reduced rent, in exchange for keeping the property secure. However, there’s a risk of eviction on short notice (as short as 28 days). These options may be more suitable for flexible, non-family tenants.
For searching flats (both for rent and purchase) according to your preferred parameters in one place, consider trying this Telegram bot: London Flats Bot. The bot instantly sends you new ads that match your criteria from Rightmove, Zoopla and OpenRent paired with information on the area from Crystalroof. Note that you’ll have to download Telegram to use the bot (but we’re hoping to integrate it with Imii some day, so stay tuned!).
